Mark brings over 26 years of experience in the insurance industry, having completed thousands of appraisals in both appraiser and umpire roles. His background includes extensive knowledge of building reconstruction, supported by a continuous commitment to researching localized cost data for accurate claim valuation—an approach that consistently distinguishes him from his peers.
Mark is known for his strong interpersonal skills and conceptual communication style, which contribute to efficient and effective claim resolution processes. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from California State University, Fullerton, along with supplemental education in Geology.
Mark began his insurance career in the late 1990s in the restoration industry, initially focusing on business development for a Southern California-based contractor. Through in-person engagements with insurance professionals, the business grew rapidly, and Mark transitioned into estimating. Although he had no formal background in construction, his mechanical aptitude—something his mother recognized early on, often encouraging him to follow in the footsteps of his engineer father—made estimating a natural fit.
“Estimating became a passion,” Mark recalls. “It required thinking beyond the box—how and why, what and where.” He quickly developed a deep understanding of construction mechanics and went on to write cause and origin reports that played pivotal roles in claim resolutions.
In the early 2000s, Mark became an independent adjuster and swiftly earned a reputation for excellence, achieving a 95% claim resolution rate across various carriers. By 2007, he transitioned into the appraisal field full-time, a move that culminated in the founding of Alfieri & Associates Appraisal Services in 2009. That same year, his work as an umpire began to take shape.
By 2018, Mark shifted his focus almost exclusively to umpiring. While he still accepts select appraisal assignments, prioritizing umpiring minimizes the appearance of conflicts and ensures fairness in the increasingly complex world of alternative dispute resolution.
With numerous commendations from industry peers and clients alike for his professionalism and success in settling difficult claims, Mark Alfieri is widely regarded as a leading figure in insurance claim resolution and a trusted authority in appraisal services.
