Industry Experience
John Howell is a seasoned property insurance professional and Army veteran with a diverse background in both financial analysis and property damage assessment. Starting his career as a financial analyst for Beggs and Lane law firm, John pioneered the "well-managed portfolio" loss concept, addressing both observable financial losses and potential opportunity costs. In 2004, he transitioned into the property damage field after Hurricane Ivan, working closely with general contractors and roofing experts in estimating and sales.
Leveraging the discipline and leadership skills gained from his military service, John obtained his independent adjuster’s license in Texas in 2006. He went on to handle claims for major carriers such as State Farm, Farm Family, and Franklin Mutual across multiple storm events. His extensive experience in post-disaster assessments led him to work with New York State, where he spearheaded efforts to assess the costs of elevating homes affected by hurricanes. During this deployment, he developed a streamlined process for estimating home elevations using specialized teams, ensuring accuracy and adherence to program timelines.
For over eight years, John served as Director of the TWIA/TFPA reinspection program, managing a team that conducted over 40,000 reinspections.
In recent years, John has consulted with general contractors, guiding them through the intricacies of insurance estimating and claims management. His vast industry knowledge, combined with the leadership and dedication honed during his military service, make him a trusted expert in both residential and commercial markets.
